i also use gloves and hand pick... way faster than trying to get a rake in there
2  Advertising and Marketing / Advertising and Marketing / Re: Too many promotional offers? on: July 30, 2014, 05:02:03 PM
i only do the refer a friend but dont advertise it.
i also have some 1 free week when you pre pay for 4 weeks for new clients. this is to be used for events and such where i can advertise to a lot of new clients. i wont be using them on a regular basis.

i find i dont need to discount anything... it also gets confusing on my end for me too.

It was in the back of the leg.
I am no longer going to service their yard... Luckily here we have everything covered by healthcare.

The dogs havent had shots in a long time. (not sure what one bit me)..I am hoping to find out this week if everything is okay. I know the chances of getting rabies isn't huge but I just need to make sure everything is good Smiley

9  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Selling Scooping Company on: May 05, 2013, 08:55:41 AM
I think some people think their business is worth more than what it really is.
Clients change all the time... your top clients could move or stop service next week.. you never know.
Plus you always wonder how many clients will stop once a change over happens. Being a buying I would be pissed loosing clients when I just bought the business "priced per client" or whatever you sell it for.

I would just think realistic.

We all know this business isn't easy and not a get rich fast thing...
10  Starting Up / Starting Up / Re: Pricing? on: April 15, 2013, 05:18:27 PM
I will say this though! As a baseline, start with nothing less then 12 dollars for one dog. I see pooper scoopers who charge say  9.99 for one dog and that is not a serious price or even CHEAPER. Remember there is a logic to this - If you price too low, people will ask - WHY? - If you price to high, people will ask why- But you as a business owner you shouldn't charge based on how people will feel ABOUT YOU - which is a huge mistake in this business. People care about how they will be perceived if they say charge 15 for one dog which i do or even 16 dollars but you have expenses such as gas, insurance, equipment and just your wages. Given today's costs I personally and this is my opinion only Id charge nothing less than 15 for one dog.

This also depends on your competition. If your charging $15.00 and your competition is $11.00 then people may wonder why you are so high.

12  Starting Up / Starting Up / Re: Pet Bellhop, Michgian-Macomb County on: March 10, 2013, 01:04:33 PM
most clients dont know their yard size... nor will they take the time to find out.
Easy to way to loose someone as people are too busy..thats why they call.
$21.00 for a dog? holy moly! Again you can have a 7000 sq foot yard but maybe the dog only goes at the front of the yard?
13  General Category / General Discussion / Re: How to know if pricing is to high? How to solve it? on: February 26, 2013, 02:57:01 PM
I dont see your prices as being too high.
Do you have other companies in your area or state? I would have them comparable.

Our prices are slightly higher than most of our competition. Its not crazy high.

15  Tools, Trucks and Techniques / Tools, Truck and Techniques / Rake! on: February 21, 2013, 04:19:56 PM
I have been using the same rake for years.
I know fiberglassing keeps them longer but I have broke SO many rakes due to rust.
I have the red ones with an extending handle I got at Big Lots.

I think Im looking for something thats stronger and of course lightweight .

What do you guys have?

I will be in the states again within a month so I may consider buying down there again.
