Fact:
Any dog, no matter how seemingly nice, can attack you any day, any time. I've seen it happen. If you go in without protection, it is a matter of time before you are bitten. You can get away with it a lot, but just give it time.

So, do you want to tell your customers to tie up the dogs?
Or do you want to carry the portable fense around and deal with other problems?
