Can someone please provide the phone number for Day/Night Collection Agency.
I have searched  the forums and have only found reference to them in a couple of posts but without any contact info.
We are Midwest Poopy Scoopers in Illinois and we have a few accounts that are several months late. We have tried calling our customers but they are avoiding us. I know times are tough but we have to pay our bills too so we are to the point that if they will not answer their phone or doorbell than they are leaving us with no option but to go this route.

By the way, thank you to all the people on the forum. We dont post very often but we read the forum regularly and I just want to say Thank You for all the valuable information.

Best Regards,

Frank

midwest, I'm originally from Morris, IL.  Anyway, before stepping into the dog poo business I was an accountant and just finished a collection law class.  I'm putting this up here because everyone, even the smartypants, have been so helpful so I'm paying it back.  Collections MAY get you 50% of your debt if you are lucky and then they take 50% or more.   Here's a few legal tips from what the financial law speaker told the collection law class.   Try to get them to sign a promise to pay, it's no easy task but if you do you got something in writing that will hold up in court.  Just say you need it for financial records.   Technically you can't send them a 1099 for lost wages til it goes over $600.  That's right, they are technically gaining income because they aren't paying you.  Just mention if the bill isn't pay you MAY not will(important point) send them a 1099 because they are keeping income you earned.  You can send them a final demand letter for payment and use the usps certified receipt where the postman gets them to sign that they received it. Or this one caught all of us off guard even the lawyer I use to work with and it's legal but it depends on your code of ethics.  A second page letter.  What that is you send them a letter with your company name and all that on the header/footer or however you invoice and it's clearly labeled page 2 of 2.  There is no page one on purpose.  Page 2 simply has that page 2 of 2 and the following.  We believe we have taken the proper course of action and regret that we must follow up as noted earlier.  If we do not receive payment in 30 days we will pursue the noted action.   Then sign it.  I know, I know, I know, my jaw was on the floor listening to this guy but this is exactly what he said.  I've never had to use these yet but they are in my notes from the SkillPath collection law seminar.   If this helps, great, if not please ignore.

go to small claims if its enough money and worth the hassle.  then if you win your judgement, just call the bmv in your state and place a lien on their vehicle.  try selling that puppy!!!!!   Grin

K9
Been ther done that, it's a pain and here you waste part of two days, one to file and one to go to court. Then you may or may not get paid. A lien on a leased car/truck isn't worth the paper it's printed on, plus you have to make a deposit so the sheriff can go get the car/truck to impound it, then they have time to pay, then and only then can you get the car, however the liean holder on the car/truck will be there to get paid before you can sell it.
It sounds good but really hard to make it work.
Day Knight has been fair with their charges and I don't have to do the dirty work.

I'm ok with the loss. Anything we get will be a bonus. This lady owes us $160.00 and will not answer the phone or return a call. We tried to be nice and left a message that if she was having $ problems we would work out a payment plan. Nothing, not a return call or a note in the mail. I went to the house and saw her through the window, rang the bell and knocked on the door as well as the window and she would not come to the door. For us, its not about the money. We do a couple of elderly people, as well as a handicapped man for free. Its good advertising for us and we got 9 paying customers out it for a huge bonus. I just dont like to get cheated. I consider her to be a crook and now hope that the collection agency dings her credit rating. The funny thing is she was our first customer.

Don't pay me, Crap piles up fast. No payment, no scooping, simple and easy. If they are serious about getting their crap picked up they will prepay.

I'm not sure the rate D/K will give, I believe I'm getting an aPaws rate. You'll keep more than the 60%, their rates are fair from what I've  seen. Call them and ask, all it costs is a phone call.

We dont require prepay. If we get burned than so be it. Knock on wood this has been the only person that has not paid us. Since we feel like she tried to cheat us we are going to get a bit strict in this case. We have a couple of customers that are late on occasion but that's no big deal to us. They call us and let us know and we work with them. We do this as a sideline to help support our German Shepherd rescue shelter so its not our primary source of income.

Our primary business is as a breeder of Black German Shepherds. We sell puppies worldwide, and we also train German Shepherds as Police dogs and then sell, as well as donate them to various agencies. We started the shelter because we are pretty well known and people bring them in regularly. The cost of care gets expensive so thats why we started this. It is getting bigger and bigger and I can see the potential for us to grow the business to 800 to 1000 customers in a year or 2. Than it will get to be serious and we will have a full time person to oversee the billing and collections.
